Bid for Games track

CASEY Council will try to obtain the MCG athletics track for Casey Fields following the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
At last Tuesday night’s council meeting, Araluen Ward councillor Rob Wilson said Casey should explore whether it can have the track when it is disposed of after the 2006 Games.
Cr Wilson said the relay track would be made of precious synthetic material and would be torn up following the completion of the March event.
But he said the issue required further exploration.
“The synthetic material is glued to the asphalt so when it is lifted up it might not be transferable.
“But this is definitely something that we should look into.
“We have a grass track at Edwin Flack but it would be good to have a synthetic track that can be used all year round,” he said.
Cr Wilson said the council would now write to Victorian Sport and Commonwealth Games Minister Justin Madden to express its interest.
