RICH, vibrant colours are warming up visitors to a special exhibit being featured as part of the Casey Winter Arts Program.
The exhibitions Eyes Open to Colour, Eyes of Mine and Words Fail are on display at the Casey Civic Centre Art Space until 30 August.
Casey’s manager of arts and leisure, Robyn Bowen, said the exhibitions worked particularly well alongside each other with the artworks sharing strong colours and feelings to an extent that even surprised the artists.
Eyes Open to Colour, Eyes of Mine is an exhibition of paintings by Narre Warren North artist Olga Herouvim.
Ms Bowen said Ms Herouvim’s abstract style conveyed an attempt to find one’s place in a busy environment, and the work was not simply about recording an image, but stimulating the imagination.
She strove to see every subject as a colour harmony with the simplified figures that appeared in her paintings being from real life as well as her memory and imagination, Ms Bowen said.
Ms Herouvim is a self-taught artist who has been exhibiting her work for more than 20 years, and she has developed Otchimoi Studio and Gallery in Narre Warren North into a permanent live and work space for artists.
Words Fail is an exhibition by Carole Redlich that features a diverse range of textile works including sculptural forms and wearable objects such as jewellery and highly decorative coats.
Her passion for all things ethnic, such as pattern on pattern, lots of colour, beads and embellishments and wearable pieces, combined with her creativity, makes for a stunning range of works.
A brochure detailing the Civic Centre Art Space exhibition program for 2007 is available from City of Casey customer service centres in Narre Warren, Narre Warren South and Cranbourne.
The exhibition program can also be viewed on the City of Casey website at www.casey.vic.gov.au/arts.
