Arsonists target site

MORE than 100 metres of underground-pressure hosing was set alight last week when vandals targeted a Berwick construction site.
Senior Sergeant Ian Wilcox, of Narre Warren CIU, said the Greaves Road site had been broken into between 2pm on Saturday, 25 March, and 5.30pm, on Sunday 26 March.
He said vandals had damaged a power generator and gained access to an underground pit, where they had started a fire and caused about $4000 worth of damage to underground hosing.
“They entered the covered pit after removing some boards. Then they started a fire,” he said.
Sen Sgt Wilcox said the side doors of the generator had been forced open with a computer panel smashed causing $6000 worth of damage. He said police believed the people involved lived locally.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Steve Gaskan, of Narre Warren CIU, on 9705 3111 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
