A long and active life

ESME McMahon is set to turn 100 in style this Saturday.
About 80 friends and family members are getting ready to join the fighting fit Narre Warren resident to celebrate her milestone.
Ms McMahon has seen it all.
She lived though World War I and II, the Great Depression and several other world changing events that, today, only a handful can say they have survived.
Ms McMahon puts her longevity down to an active lifestyle that involved dancing, callisthenics and other activities.
No smoking and drinking were also at the core of her wellbeing for most of her life.
“We use to go dancing at the dance halls all the time on a Saturday night,” she said.
Esme and her 91-year-old husband, Jim, spent 20 years of their life in Nar Nar Goon before relocating to aged care facility Amity at Berwick 10 years ago.
Mr McMahon said the key to their marriage was patience.
Ms McMahon will be joined by some family members more than 90 years her junior on Saturday.
With four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, Ms McMahon will be the centre of attention among her family.
Ms McMahon is looking forward to sifting through some important mail from the Queen, Governor-General and Prime Minister congratulating her on her 100th birthday. “It should be good,” she said.
