The announcement was made last Wednesday week during a visit from Minister for Roads and Ports Tim Pallas to the area.
Mr Pallas said the money would allow for the upgrade between Centre Road and Pound Road.
“The duplication of this vital transport route will provide a huge boost to safety in the area, physically separating oncoming traffic and a safer right-turning environment, which lessens potential for crashes,” he said.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley joined Mr Pallas for the announcement.
“In addition to improved safety, the duplication of Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road will result in a marked improvement in traffic flow in the area, significantly reducing delays, especially at peak times,” she said. “This funding will benefit the entire community by improving safety, reducing traffic congestion and minimising the environmental impacts from road freight vehicles.”
Ms Graley also acknowledged members of the local freight industry as well as the City of Casey for their part in the project.
“I would like to thank council and community members for bringing this important project to our attention – we have listened to the community and are taking action to improve roads in important parts of Melbourne’s road network,” she said.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said the funding was fantastic news for Casey residents.
“Council has long been campaigning for improvements to upgrade these vital main roads and we’re extremely pleased the State Government is responding to our community’s road safety and efficiency concerns as Casey continues to grow,” he said. “The duplication of Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road includes the section between Centre Road and Pound Road, which council sees as an important part of the staged upgrading of the link between Narre Warren and Cranbourne.”
Mr Pallas said improving the safety, access and efficiency of the road network were key actions for the Bracks Government.
