A tip-off over suspected human remains buried in a Lakeside backyard led a team of police, including forensics officers, to swoop on a Pakenham home.
Police have been at the modest suburban, brick veneer home since Monday night.
It is rumoured that the remains found are those of a child.
On Wednesday, there was a pram at the home’s front door, and children’s toys in the back yard as forensics officers moved in with shovels.
Mallee Circuit neighbours told the News they didn’t know anything about what had happened, and that police had given them very limited information.
Neighbours said a family with small children lived in the house, adding that they were relatively quiet people who kept to themselves.
Investigators conducted a re-enactment on the site, with a 31-year-old Cranbourne man who is assisting them with their inquiries.
Police continued to door-knock the area on Wednesday.
Victoria Police spokesperson Alison Noonan said police had received a report of human remains buried in a Pakenham residential backyard and that investigations were continuing to substantiate those claims.
