CASEY residents are reminded to watch for swooping birds during the next few months.
Casey’s manager of environment Nicola Ward said people who were swooped should not scare, attack or remove a bird from the area, as it is an offence to harass or destroy native birds or their eggs under the Wildlife Act 1975.
As the spring breeding season begins for native birds, residents can highlight swooping ‘hot spots’ in the local area on the Magpie Map on the DSE website.
People can also download a free Swoop Off kit and set of printable eyes to put on the back of helmets and hats to deter birds from swooping.
It also includes tips to reduce the risk of getting swooped.
To report a swooping location, email swoopvic@dse.vic.gov.au.
