458 busted

By Jade Lawton
CARDINIA’S Highway Patrol busted 458 speedsters last month – a rate of almost 15 per day.
Sergeant Nigel Atkins said 28 of those leadfoots were exceeding the speed by more than 25 km/h.
“All of those (above 25km/h) lost their licences,” Sgt Atkins said.
“One in particular on Saturday afternoon was caught doing 97km/h in a 50 zone on Windermere Boulevard, Pakenham. That was an 18-year-old P-1 licence holder and their car was impounded, with a $597 fine and they were ordered off the road for 12 months.”
The Highway Patrol has also been cracking down on unroadworthy vehicles, with about 11,000 taken off the road this year.
Bald tyres, dodgy suspension, loose steering and sticky brakes are the most common culprits.
