Stink could be stopped

PAKENHAM’S stink could be stopped by the end of the year.
Rumours were rife this week that the alleged cause of the stink, Pakenham Compost will cease work on the site by the end of the year.
Councillor Collin Ross was one of many who contacted the Gazette about the whisper that the compost plant would reduce their waste by the end of July, and pack up shop by 31 December.
News of the intended closure was celebrated by many in the community, most of whom have been vocal about their distaste for the smell.
Pakenham Business Group Vice President Michael Porter said he was desperately trying to get someone to confirm the news.
“I hope for Pakenham’s sake its true,” he said.
A spokesperson for the owner of the site, Transpacific Industries Group, did not confirm or deny the rumours, instead saying that “Transpacific is working closely with our customers and the EPA regarding the future of the site.”
