Less learnin’, more earnin’

PAKENHAM teens are more likely to seek an apprenticeship after school than their Berwick cousins, according to new statistics.
A survey tracking the fortunes of 2009’s VCE graduates shows that of the 61 students who completed Year 12 at Pakenham Secondary College last year, 19 are now enrolled or deferred from university, 27 are at TAFE, 23 are undergoing apprenticeships and 31 are employed.
No graduate is without work or education prospects.
Students who graduated from Berwick Secondary College in the same year are more likely to head to university. Of the 117 graduates, 34 are at university, 29 at TAFE, 13 are apprentices and 22 are employed, with three currently seeking work.
The On Track data is used by the State Government to improve education programs and offer support to young people.
