WHEN Lakeside Village shopkeepers Alex Sy and Tom Mase heard of the good work 4Cs’ 4000 cans campaign would do for the community they knew they wanted to get involved.
So Alex, from Al’s Asian Filipino Grocers, and Tom, from Macey’s Pizza and Pasta, contacted Mr Lakeside himself Jack Mitchell to work out a way they could help.
Each business made a large donation on Monday, Alex handed over a 25-kilogram bag of rice and Tom did the same with a 25-kilogram bag of sugar.
Mr Mitchell said it was great to see Lakeside Village traders giving back to the community.
“It really is a terrific cause,” he said.
“It’s great that these guys came to me and said they wanted to help out.”
4Cs co-ordinator Jeni Mathieson said it was great to see local shops giving to the charity.
“Especially at this time of year, something like this is just wonderful,” Ms Mathieson said. “But as soon as we got it, it was virtually out the door.
“Its fantastic to get such a donation.”
