Can clan has spines of steel

By Jade Lawton
CHRISTMAS is just weeks away and the 4Cs Foodbank still needs thousands more cans to ensure every local family has food on the table.
The 4Cs Foodbank, Cardinia Shire Council and Star News Group have joined forces for the ‘4000 cans for 4Cs’ campaign, which kicked off a few weeks ago.
The 4Cs will use the non-perishable cans of food to make about 1000 Christmas hampers, which will be given to local battlers.
4Cs co-ordinator Jeni Mathieson has urged residents to purchase an extra can for the charity in their weekly food shop or get together with friends for a can drive.
Ms Mathieson said packets of rice and pasta, long-life milk, canned vegetables and fruit, soup, baked beans and Christmas items like mince pies, puddings, and biscuits could make all the difference to families struggling this Christmas.
Drop-off points are located at various points across the shire, including Battery Zone Pakenham. Manager Charlie Carter said staff had donated a few tins themselves but were looking for more donations.
“Anyone can come up and drop in a can,” he said.
Donate your cans at Battery Zone Pakenham or Kooweerup IGA Plus Liquor, Lang Lang Foodworks, Richies IGA Pakenham, Star News Group Pakenham Office, Cardinia Shire Council offices, Signarama, Pakenham, and the 4Cs Foodbank at 1 Main Street, Pakenham
