Wishing Tree Target

THIS Christmas, Target Pakenham is working with UnitingCare to help collect and distribute gifts for local disadvantaged families through the ‘Wishing Tree Appeal’.
UnitingCare is seeing an increasing number of people requiring both emergency relief and assistance, in the wake of the global financial crisis.
Local co-ordinator, Tom Griggs, from Pakenham Uniting Church, is overseeing the distribution of gifts donated at Target Pakenham and said each gift went to someone within the local community, making the appeal a great way for people to contribute to local needs.
“We’re asking Target shoppers to dig deep, find some extra Christmas spirit and spend a little on others when they are buying for their loved ones,” Mr Griggs said.
“For these people, dealing with the enormous emotional pressure of their financial hardship can push them to breaking point. Let’s make a difference and show the caring spirit of local generosity.”
Over the last 17 years the appeal has provided 1.6million gifts, with nearly 95, 000 gifts donated Australia wide last year.
To donate, take a gift tag from the tree at the front of Target Pakenham to either buy or make a gift or purchase a gift voucher from the checkout.
UnitingCare volunteers will collect the gifts and ensure they are distributed to those in need in time for Christmas morning.
