MORE than 800 green-thumbed people from across Victoria braved the rain to get their hands on rare plants and special ornaments at the fifth annual Pakenham Garden Expo.
Pakenham Garden Club co-ordinator Meryl Waterhouse said the event, held from 9am until 2pm on Saturday, was the best yet. “Gardeners weren’t deterred by the rain, but most of the expo was undercover anyway,” she said.
About 50 stalls were set up, displaying a variety of plants and bulbs, garden tools and ornaments.
Ms Waterhouse said stall-holders were overwhelmed by the number of people at the event.
“The Salvia Study Group almost sold out of their plants within an hour,” she said.
“It was wonderful. We will have to work pretty hard to improve the expo for next year.”
