ENTRIES are now open for Cardinia Shire’s Australia Day awards.
There are many people in the community who drive change or tirelessly contribute their time to worthwhile projects, and mayor Bill Pearson wants to see them nominated.
“We are very fortunate to have so many people working to make Cardinia Shire a better place,” Cr Pearson said.
“This is our chance to pay tribute to some of our very best citizens and events and I hope the community will get behind the Australia Day awards and acknowledge and honour the contributions of the people who deserve a pat on the back.” This year, nominations are being sought in five categories. They are Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and the Community Service Award to honour someone who does not live in Cardinia Shire but has made significant contribution to the Cardinia Shire community.
The 2009 Citizen of the Year was John Glazzard of Tynong. Awards were also presented to Elma Drayton of Bunyip (Senior Citizen of the Year), Eugene Mackinnon of Maryknoll (Young Citizen of the Year), Vince Bucello of Cranbourne (Community Service Award) and National Youth Week (Community Event of the Year).
Winners will be announced at the shire’s Australia Day celebrations on 26 January. Nomination forms are available at the council’s website and at outlets across the shire. For locations, or to download information, visit www.cardinia.vic.gov.au or call 1300 787 624.
Nominations for the awards close on Friday 30 October.
