Student forum tackles future

THE school leaving age will be raised to 17 years on 1 January 2010.
Cardinia Shire Council and the South East Local Learning and Employment Network (SELLEN) will discuss the impact the change will have on businesses, schools, young people and their families at the Cardinia School, Industry and Community Forum.
The forum, to be held at the Cardinia Cultural Centre on 11 August from 6pm- 9pm, will give local employers, schools and families an insight into these changes and how we can work together to provide opportunities for young people to learn and earn.
Council’s business development officer Phil Jackson said this was a great opportunity for people to become more informed about the impact of the changes. “In light of these changes, it has become particularly important to begin to build strong, local links between schools, industry and families,” Mr Jackson said.
The second part of the forum will encourage participants to express their views on how best to build strong and productive partnerships with local business and community agencies.
SELLEN Chief Executive Officer Paul Di Masi invited anyone from the local community with a concern about education, training, careers and employment to attend. “We need to work together to cement links between schools, employers and the broader community,” he said.
For bookings, contact SELLEN 9794 6921 or for further information contact Council’s Economic Development Unit on 1300 787 624.
