Survey to help kids get active

CARDINIA Shire Council is distributing 5000 surveys in a bid to identify the barriers children face in getting around their local neighbourhood.
The survey is part of council’s involvement in the Streets Ahead program. The program is funded by VicHealth, and Cardinia Shire Council is one of six councils in Victoria participating.
Primary school students in Pakenham have already been involved in activities which kicked off in March this year which encourages them to ‘get active’ in their local neighbourhoods.
“The information will be useful to help us identify barriers for young people getting around their neighbourhood independently on foot, bike, skateboard or scooter,” the council’s Active Children’s officer Kate Beveridge said. “Adults often notice things which children don’t and this survey will capture this information.
“We want young people to be able to get around their neighbourhood safely and the information will help council assess how improvements can be made to facilitate this.”
