Shopping hub on business agenda

PARKING and the pending development of an $80 million retail hub in the centre of Pakenham will be all the talk at next Wednesday’s Pakenham Business Group meeting.
The development is gaining pace, with the Pakenham Library site expected to be levelled by Christmas to make way for it.
Cardinia Shire councillor Collin Ross said the hub, to feature a Big W and Woolworths supermarket, would take about 18 months to build.
Cr Ross said the council was searching for sites to provide parking alternatives during construction.
Existing traders are concerned about the provision of parking during the development, but hope to have their questions answered at the meeting on Wednesday (5 August).
PBG president Michael Porter said the business community was looking forward to Cardinia Shire Council chief executive Garry McQuillan addressing the business community.
Other guest speakers at the PBG meeting (August 5) include Tom Quilty Gold Cup organiser Lissy Verity and a council local-laws officer.
Ms Verity will speak about the economic benefits of the Tom Quilty Gold Cup, the world’s biggest endurance ride to be held at Tonimbuk this September.
The council local-laws officer will discuss the council’s new Footpath Trading Code. Both members and non-members are welcome to attend the meeting.
Bookings must be made this Friday by emailing m.tones@pakenham.countryracing.com.au.
