More support for arts

MORE than 60 members of Cardinia’s arts community last week celebrated the launch of the council’s first Arts and Culture and Public Art policies.
The event also saw the introduction of new community representatives to the council’s Arts and Cultural Reference Group for 2009: Holly DeMaria, Catherine Manning, Peter Biram, Eugene Mackinnon and David Griffiths.
Cardinia Shire councillor Ed Chatwin, chair of the Arts and Cultural Reference Group, formally launched the policies and introduced the new Reference Group.
The reference group will provide information and advice on the artistic and cultural needs of the community as well as providing input into the delivery of the Arts and Culture policy documents.
Cr Chatwin said the policies were integral to council’s vision for arts and cultural development in the shire.
To coincide with the launch, the council is presenting a free Grant Writing for the Arts workshop.
The Arts Management Advisory Group will present the workshop designed to assist arts practitioners, groups and event organisers wanting to write a competitive grant application.
Grant Writing for the Arts will be held at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Pakenham tonight (2 July) from 6pm to 8.30pm and at the Emerald Library on Tuesday 7 July, from 6pm to 8.30pm.
To RSVP, or for copies of the polices contact Council’s Cultural Development Unit on 1300 787 624 or visit www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/artsculturepolicies
