Forum set to explores youth issues

AN expert on young people’s experiences of education, work and health will speak at the Cardinia Education Forum.
Professor Johanna Wyn, Director of the Youth Research Centre at the Melbourne University Graduate School of Education will address the forum on 1 May (Friday) at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.
Professor Wyn has published five books including her latest publication, Youth Health and Welfare: the cultural politics of education and wellbeing (2009).
Cardinia Shire Council is hosting the forum; and educators, social and policy planners, employment personnel and professionals who work with young people throughout the region have been invited.
Cardinia Shire mayor Bill Pearson said the purpose of the Youth at the Heart of Change forum, was to explore issues facing young people in this area.
He said it would also give the opportunity to examine how the council, service providers and the community might better improve young people’s experiences of education and work, and their health and wellbeing.
Cr Pearson said Professor Wyn had devoted almost 30 years to researching three critically important aspects of young people’s lives: youth transitions, youth health and wellbeing, and youth participation.
