Heartfelt thanks go out

IT WAS the least we could do – thank the firefighters and other volunteers who put their lives on the line dur-ing the Black Saturday firestorm.
And about 800 people did just that, in turning out to the Cardinia Shire Council’s Thankyou Firies event on Sunday.
They paid tribute to more than 600 firefighters from 20 brigades across the shire and other volunteers who were involved in the firefighting effort.
CFA general manager for Western Port Peter Schmidt said the event was one of the biggest community functions held in recognition of Black Saturday volunteers.
