Thanks go to firies

A CROWD of 2000 is expected to gather at the Lakeside Amphitheatre for a “thank-you firies” service this Sunday.
Members of the community will pay tribute to local firefighters who risked their lives to protect homes during the Black Saturday firestorm.
Cardinia Shire mayor Bill Pearson will open the event which includes a memorial and thanks-giving service; medal and cheque presentations; and family-fun entertainment.
Cr Pearson said it was important to say thank-you to those who put their lives on the line.
“I felt the fires, which lasted four weeks, were very traumatic for everyone,” he said.
“We want to invite friends and families of the firies and everyone who wants to say thanks.”
More than 6000 volunteers will be honoured.
