Quake-shock

AN EARTHQUAKE measuring 4.6 on the Richter Scale shook Pakenham households on Friday night.
The quake rocked most parts of Victoria at 8.55pm and 186 Pakenham residents reported feeling minor shakes.
Its epicentre was 44km away from Pakenham, north of Korumburra.
Pakenham resident Ian Johnston said he went to bed at 8.30pm after a long hard week only to be awoken 25 minutes later.
“Rousing from sleep, I realised the ceiling was squeaking with another louder chattering noise coming from the roof tiles, my bed and side lamp were also shaking so I bolted out of bed for the bedroom doorway calling out to my wife ‘earthquake’,” he said.
Shayne Honey of Pakenham SES said the only possible report of damage was at a Beaconsfield office.
After the long weekend, staff rocked up on Tuesday only to discover the office was under water.
Mr Honey said it wasn’t clear if damage to the office’s hot water system had been caused by Friday night’s earthquake.
VICSES received around 30 requests for assistance in relation to minor building damage across metropolitan Melbourne.
