2010 start for new station

CONSTRUCTION on Cardinia Road Station will begin in 2010.
The State Government made this commitment when it unveiled its $38 million Transport Plan on Monday.
The announcement has been welcomed by members of the Lakeside community who rallied hard to get the State Government to bring forward the station’s construction date.
Spring Street had planned to build the station between 2011 and 2016.
The chairman of the Lakeside Community Development forum Jack Mitchell welcomed the earlier date.
“It’s fantastic. It’s so important for the community,” he said.
Cardinia Road Station will feature two 160-metre-long platforms, ticket machines, bus pick-up bays, a taxi rank, a major park and ride facility, closed circuit security cameras and bicycle facilities.
