EIGHT Pakenham Consolidated School students enjoyed success at a national aerobics competition in Sydney this month.
Students in the grade 3 team, Paky Tornados, finished fourth overall in their category and the grade 6 team, Paky Hornets, finished 14th at the event held at Homebush on 7 October.
The students scored a place in the National Aeroskools Championships in Sydney after excellent results in the finals of the state championships in Melbourne on 15 August.
Students visited some of the sights of Sydney the day before competition, including the Sydney Opera House and Manly beach.
Grade 3 student Kirsten said she enjoyed the competition and her first time on a plane.
“I liked it all but I liked meeting lots of different people at the competition the most,” she said. Madison, who also competed in the Paky Tornados team, said the most memorable part of her trip was competing at Homebush at Sydney Olympic Park.
The school’s aerobics coordinator Rebecca Knight said the students performed very well and had a great time.
“They were really excited. It was the first time on a plane for a lot of them and also the first time away from home. They had a ball,” she said. Ms Knight introduced the aerobics program to the school last year, but the students who performed at the competition have only been doing aerobics for about six months.
She said the results were outstanding because both teams were in the youngest age bracket of their sections.
