Officers at the Pakenham Police Station held a service on Monday for National Police Remembrance Day, or Blue Ribbon Day.
Inspector Ron Moseley said the day encouraged police officers and their families to honour the memory of co-workers and loved ones, who had given their lives while serving the community.
Reverend Hilary Roath led the short service.
“We remember, especially the 151 men and women, who during the past 153 years, have paid the supreme sacrifice while serving with Victoria Police,” she said.
“The symbolic blue ribbon remembers the heroic actions of the officers who have given their lives…but also gives us an opportunity to simply say thank you on one special day each year to the men and women in blue who serve our community so very well.”
Cardinia Shire mayor Bill Ronald paid tribute to fallen police officers.
Cardinia Shire councillors Kate Lempriere, Graeme Legge and Brett Owen also attended the service along with MPs Edward O’Donohue and Tammy Lobato.
Cr Ronald said he applauded the job police officers had done, often under difficult circumstances and was pleased with the council’s relationship police in the shire.
“We look forward to an ongoing friendship and professional relationship with our police,” he said.
“Community safety is and will continue to be among our highest priorities.”
