Breathing new life into sport

A NEW sporting season has begun at the recently upgraded YMCA Cardinia LiFE stadium.
Residents can show off their skills during basketball, netball, floorball and badminton competitions, which all kicked off at the stadium recently. Soccer and volleyball competitions are planned to start soon.
Cardinia Shire Council completed a $4.8 million upgrade of the Pakenham centre, making it the largest indoor sporting venue outside Melbourne. The upgrades included a four-court extension.
The official opening of the YMCA Cardinia LiFE stadium will be held on 12 October from 12.45pm to 3pm.
Cardinia Shire mayor Bill Ronald said he hoped to see a big gathering at the opening celebration, which will include a free program of activities and entertainment.
“Residents are welcome to come along and inspect the new facilities at this outstanding centre,” he said.
“Budding young stars can emulate the skills of NBA heroes and win prizes by sinking long shot goals, while some of the best netballers and basketballers in the region will showcase their skills with special demonstrations during the afternoon.”
The YMCA-managed centre now features eight full-size multi-purpose courts, a fully equipped health club, group fitness rooms, crèche facilities, modern change rooms and three heated pools.
