PARENTS of school children have been urged to ditch the car during October and get the kids to walk to school.
Cardinia Shire Council’s Walking School Bus project is working harder than ever to get children to walk to school as part of Walktober because October is International Walk to School month.
More than 80 per cent of trips made to accompany children to school are made by car.
Council wants parents of young children to help bring this percentage down by participating in Walktober.
The Walking School Bus is said by the council to be safe, free, supervised and easy. Each designated route will have an adult volunteer who will supervise the walk to school ensuring safe passage of all participants.
Walktober is officially launched today (Wednesday, 18 October).
