VANDALS are destroying the once peaceful surrounds of Carlyle Street, Pakenham, with the latest victim being David Snow and his red Volvo sedan.
Mr Snow, 41, was alerted early last Saturday morning to noises outside his unit and on closer inspection found one side of his 1993 model car had just been vandalised with black spray paint.
“I discovered the paint pretty much as it happened so I ran after the guy down the driveway and he jumped in his car and took off,” he said.
Mr Snow said the vandal made one mistake when he turned his car headlights on and Mr Snow was able to record his registration details and hand them on to police.
“The bloke flicked on his lights as he drove down the street so I was able to see his number plate and I made sure I didn’t forget,” he said.
The crime has been reported to police, who are now investigating the matter, but the inconvenience of insurance claims and a damaged car is frustrating Mr Snow.
“There is about $7000 damage to the car which will have to be claimed through insurance and I’m also having trouble getting to work and back every day,” he said.
The spray paint has damaged the car’s windows, the bonnet and all the panels on one side of the vehicle, which is now un-roadworthy.
Mr Snow said the attack on his car was one of several recent incidents in the block of units that were causing concern to all residents.
“I have lived here for 10 years and it has been like a retirement village for most of that time, but the last eight weeks have been terrible,” he said.
“There have been a number of other vandalism incidents in the street and we also have people hooning around in their cars at crazy speeds and the young kids in the area are in danger of being hit and seriously injured.”
