PAKENHAM cyclists are gearing up to slog in the saddle for a worthy cause.
Up to 120 people, from the local area and around Victoria, will ride the 160 kilometres down the Princes Highway to Sale next month as a fundraiser for the 4C’s (Cardinia Combined Churches Caring) Emergency Food Bank.
The Slog to Sale is one of the main fundraisers for the 4C’s which distributes food parcels and other support services to a growing client base in Pakenham and around the Cardinia Shire.
This year, ride organiser Michael Wilson hopes to raise a record $20,000.
“It’s getting bigger and bigger, this year is going to be huge,” Mr Wilson said of the event, now in its fourth year.
“We’ve got more riders than we’ve ever had and businesses are really jumping on board too, which is great.
”Cyclists will depart Pakenham early in the morning on Saturday 28 October and should start arriving in Sale about lunchtime.”
Mr Wilson said he would love to be able to speak about the hours of hard training that had been part of his preparations for the big day but doesn’t want to give any false impressions.
He has been doing regular workouts at Pakenham Fitness Factory in a bid to get in shape but shrugs off suggestions that he could be facing a record finish this year.
“I’m going to be pretty sore,” he said.Mr Wilson paid tribute to Bears Bikes, the Bendigo Bank, GBA Computers and other local groups and organisations for their support.
“We would welcome more riders and more sponsorship,” he said.
