SOARING temperatures failed to dampen the motivation of more than 400 people who competed in the inaugural Lakeside Fun Run recently.
Sunscreen and shade were in high demand by participants who took part in the 4km walk, 4km run and 8km run as the mercury hit 39 degrees on Sunday 16 March.
Lakeside Pakenham community development manager Karina Dooley was pleased with the enthusiastic support for the event.
“The Lakeside Fun Run allowed residents of Lakeside to celebrate their community and get to know their neighbours,” she said. “It also showcased Lakeside’s natural beauty and strong sense of community spirit to the many visitors who came along.”
All entrants collectively limbered up for the event when they participated in a pre-race warm-up with YMCA fitness professional Rose Meredith.
“It was definitely a sight worth seeing when everyone was doing the pre-race warm up in front of the Cardinia Cultural Centre,” Ms Dooley said.
After the event the participants and the many residents who turned up to support the runners joined in the festivities with a community barbecue, face painting, a jumping castle and award presentations.
The event was presented by Cardinia LiFE YMCA and Delfin Lend Lease to promote healthy living and celebrate community togetherness at Lakeside.
Profits raised from the event will be directed into the YMCA Cardinia LiFE Open Doors Initiative, which assists disadvantaged people in the community to access the many benefits offered by the YMCA.
The event was sponsored by Lakeside Pakenham, Brumby Bakery, Beaconhills Golf Club, Shanikas @ Viale, The Fresh Fruit Shop and Go For your Life.
