THERE was definitely something fishy going on at Pakenham’s lake last week.
State MPs Tammy Lobato and Geoff Hilton helped release 2000 yearling rainbow trout into the lake at the Lakeside estate.
The fish were released with the help of Fisheries officer Darren Deering.
Mr Hilton said the event was part of the Bracks Government’s Statewide fish stocking program, which releases more than one million fish each year.
“Pakenham lake is a popular fishery for recreational anglers and the additional 2000 yearling rainbow trout will provide ongoing fishing opportunities,” Ms Lobato said.
“The Bracks Government’s fish stocking program demonstrates the importance we place in providing recreational fishing opportunities for all Victorians – whether they’re an experienced angler or new to fishing.
“Recreational fishing is a popular pastime for families and friends and contributes close to $400 million a year to the state economy through spending on travel, accommodation, food, equipment and licences.”
