CHRISTMAS is fast approaching and the 4Cs Food Bank at Pakenham is gearing up for its busiest time of year.
The 4Cs is Cardinia Combined Churches Caring, a charity organisation that provides food and other support services for people in need.
The food bank’s team of volunteers is beginning to prepare Christmas hampers which will be distributed to families around Pakenham and elsewhere throughout Cardinia.
Food bank coordinator Jeni Mathieson said registrations were currently being taken with expectations that up to 500 hampers will be needed to meet demand.
“It goes up every year,” she said.
“Last year we did about 400 and it keeps growing. Six years ago when we started we only did a handful but, as the population has increased, so has the demand.”
Ms Mathieson said donations were welcome. She said the hampers were a major drain on the food bank’s resources.
