HARDY’S Mitre 10 Mega in Bald Hill Road Pakenham has a new barbecue which can be used free of charge each Saturday and Sunday by community and sporting groups to hold a sausage sizzle for their cause.
Hardy’s Mitre 10 Mega general manager Matt Hardy said the company was keen to have the barbecue fired up each weekend.
“With the new store we have the space outside for the barbecue, which we didn’t have before,” he said.
Mr Hardy said he had seen the design for the barbecue stand in New Zealand and had one similar especially for the Pakenham store.
“We are keen for sporting clubs, community groups and schools to make use of the barbecue,” he said.
A couple of groups have already tried out the barbecue and made between $400 and $600.
Community groups need to ring and book the day they want and complete the relevant council permit forms supplied when they book.
The barbecue and gas are provided free of charge.
“The groups just need to provide their own sausages and bread and ensure they have a permit from the shire,” Mr Hardy said.
Mr Hardy said his family had been in business in Pakenham for 50 years and was happy to continue the support through the barbecue.
“It creates a good atmosphere on the weekend, you can smell it as you walk around the store,” he said.
