WORKS by some of the best local artists were on display at the Yakkerboo Art Show over the weekend.
The exhibition, held at the Pakenham Hall, was a success for the 32nd year running.
Judge Ramon Horsfield said the Pakenham-based show was always beautifully represented and that it was good to see a number of young artists enter this year’s competition.
Gold medals were awarded to Rosemary Todman-Parrant, Do Noble and Jan Long in the general category and to Kate Woodbridge in the new contemporary category.
Mr Horsfield also praised Cardinia councillor Kate Lempriere, who officially opened both the art show and the Yakkerboo Festival.
He said it was a credit to Cr Lempriere that she “put her money were her mouth is” and each year bought a painting at the show.
Yakkerboo Festival Committee president Graham Treloar was thrilled with the success of the show.
He said it attracted good crowds and good sales across the weekend.
The art show is the first major event for the Yakkerboo Festival, which also features a performance by Marcia Rae in the Pakenham Hall tomorrow (Friday) and the carnival and fireworks display on the evening of Saturday 19 April.
The main attraction is the popular street parade and carnival on Sunday 20 April.
