Men charged after violent assault

POLICE have charged three young men with affray and various assault charges after a teenager was assaulted with a hockey stick near the Pakenham Library last fortnight.
As reported last week by the News, beer bottles were thrown during the brawl which took place on Friday 6 June about 2pm.
The altercation ended with a 19-year-old Pakenham man being taken to Casey Hospital with head injuries.
Pakenham CIU Detective Sergeant Phil Jury described the fight as “pretty violent” and warned other youths in engaging in such behaviour.
“A 78-year-old woman – the fight was around her car – and she was petrified about it,” he said.“If people are going to behave like that they’re going to be dealt with.
“Pakenham is not going to become a place where it’s going to be free-for-all.”
Police believe the altercation was part of an ongoing feud between two groups of young people living in the area.
Three men from the Pakenham area – all aged between 19 and 22 years old – will appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 7 October.
