A STOLEN bike has left a young girl devastated and prompted her upset mum to appeal for help in recovering the missing item.
Shirley Sammut said her 12-year-old daughter Tameka Tannahill was shattered when the bike was taken from their Pakenham home sometime last week.
Ms Sammut said the bike, a Mongoose BMX, had only recently been given to Tameka by a relative.
“She’d only ridden it two or three times,” she said.
“It was about three years old but it had hardly been used. It was like a brand new bike.
“Tameka came in the other day and said ‘Where’s my bike?’ She thought I was playing a trick on her.
“We looked absolutely everywhere and then realised it was gone.”
Ms Sammut said Tameka, the eldest of two daughters, had not got over the theft.
“She was devastated and I’m so angry,” she said.
“It’s a bad time of year for something like this to happen.
“I haven’t got the money to buy a new one.”
Ms Sammut has reported the theft to police.
She said it was possible the thieves crossed a vacant paddock and climbed over her back fence before taking the bike from either the garage or the back shed.
She said she had no idea who might have taken the bike, but was keeping her fingers crossed the stolen bike would be recovered.
Charcoal and black in colour, the BMX is worth about $400.
