Learning launch

By Melissa Grant
LOCALS celebrated the joy and the importance of education when the Cardinia Shire Council officially launched its Lifelong Learning Policy recently.
Civic leaders recently adopted the policy which will guide the council in its provision of local facilities and setting the direction for learning purposes across the growing municipality.
The launch at the Cardinia Cultural Centre acknowledged the work of the Cardinia Education Taskforce sub-group who helped the policy come to fruition.
Former school principal councillor Graeme Legge welcomed guests, including education officials from around the south east region.
“Our policy defines Lifelong Learning as a part of the journey of personal growth and development undertaken by each member of the community throughout their lives,” he said.
“That journey is different for each and every one of us but it is my sincere hope and belief that council’s new Lifelong Learning policy will be a beacon that guides us as we follow those undulating, sometimes more or less travelled, often challenging but always rewarding, pathways through life.”
He acknowledged the contribution of members of the Lifelong Learning policy sub-group, particularly Robyn Campbell of Chisholm TAFE, and community representative Joy Doherty.
Pakenham University of the Third Age (U3A) president Ron Topp was among those at the launch.
Guests were treated to an entertaining address by Robyn Moore, an inspirational speaker best known as the voice of iconic Australian character Blinky Bill.
