Council approves unit development

By Paul Dunlop
NEW development app-roved in Pakenham will see six single-storey and six double-storey units built across the road from Meadowvale Retirement Village.
Cardinia Shire councillors approved without comment at their meeting on Monday an application to develop a dozen new units on an L-shaped 4193 square metre block.
Nine objections were lodged by residents against the proposal, however councillors agreed with a town planner’s recommendation that it be approved subject to conditions.
Objectors said they were concerned the development would spoil a large allotment that was part of the unique charm of Pakenham’s northside.
There were concerns about the increased traffic in Eagle Drive and the impact of the development on elderly residents living in the area.
A report to council’s meeting said the township strategy supported a wide variety of housing types and that multi-unit development was appropriate for the area.
Town planners said the proposal conformed with state and local planning regulations.
“The development does not adversely affect the neighbourhood character of the street as the buildings are screened by dwellings on adjoining properties,” the report said.
