Solar heat for swimmers

LOCALS can now enjoy a swim in the Pakenham Pool right through March, thanks to solar heating.
Cardinia Shire mayor Bill Ronald said although summer was officially over, residents could still make plenty of waves with the swimming season extended until 6 April.
The council, in partnership with the State Government, last year spent $1 million on a refurbishment of the pool and the facility has been extremely popular with the community since it opened in November.
A key component of the refurbishment was upgraded solar heating which makes it possible for the pool to stay open for a longer period. Cr Ronald said the solar heating ensured water temperatures were kept at a comfortable level for pool patrons, and the warm autumn weather meant conditions were perfect for swimming.
“I encourage people to keep enjoying this tremendous community facility and make the most of the solar heating,” he said.
“It’s a great way to keep fit and be active and with the weather staying warm, people can be confident the water will remain at a very pleasant temperature.”
