Rotary to the rescue

ROTARIANS blitzed the backyard of Pakenham’s EW Tipping Foundation respite house last week.
The Cardinia Respite House, in Holt Place, opened earlier this year to provide a home away from home for people with a disability in the district.
Built last year on land provided by the Cardinia Shire Council, the ultramodern, fivebedroom home has a large backyard with plenty of space but it needed some TLC.
That’s where Rotary came in.
Club members laid turf and are planning several other improvements to the backyard. They were hard at work when the News visited on Friday.
Pakenham Rotary Club members put a sprinkler system in, handdug trenches, spread fertiliser and had a good time, Rotarian Andrew Walsh said.
“Over the last few months on weekends, rain, hail or shine, Rotarians have been busy transforming the backyard into a garden,” he said.
“The aim is to hand over a readytouse low maintenance garden that can be enjoyed by the respite residents.”
Mr Walsh thanked the many businesses who supported the project.
Delfin helped with ground preparation, supplying men and machinery to level the site so that work could begin.
Elders and Mitre 10 provided fertiliser to improve soil quality and garden edging and brackets.
Mr Walsh said Elliotts/Water Dynamics provided the materials and technical expertise for the watering system which is fully automated to make it easier to water lawns once they are laid.
