Action-packed show set to be ‘greatest ever’

By Sarah Schwager
MORE new and exciting events than ever before will be part of the package at this year’s Pakenham Show.
Visitors to the show will be treated to 14 new attractions, bands, animals, rides, competitions, carnival games, displays and much more.
There will also be many free events, including truck and ute competitions, vintage and classic cars, fun photos, knitting displays, a whipcracker, horse shoeing, old-fashioned hay bailing and dog shows.
Pakenham Show committee member Ned Patterson said this year’s show was geared up to be one of the greatest ever, with stacks of new and free events.
“There is more value for money than ever before,” she said.
Ms Patterson said features for the kids would include a puppet show called The Great Aussie Bush Show, free concerts, a farmyard section, pony rides, and a trail of fun photos where people could become some of their favourite characters.
“There will be a meet and greet after each puppet show,” Ms Patterson said.
“The public is also welcome to take photos of their kids with puppets.”
Rides will include dodgem cars, a jumping castle and the merry-go-round.
There will also be many animals for kids to visit and pet, and don’t forget those big, gentle giants the Clydesdales.
This year guests can choose to take the Wally Wombat trail, where they will follow a path around the show, collect food and gifts along the way, and go into the draw to win a prize.
Wally Wombat stations will be set up around the showgrounds, including at the main entrance.
There will also be several events and displays to bring the adults out as well.
Those who love their fishing can see fly fishing demonstrations or enter a casting competition.
There will be three age groups – under eight, under 13, and open – with ribbons awarded at the end of the day.
The Baw Baw Old Engine and Auto Club and the Gippsland Historical Automobile Club will be putting some of their vintage and classic cars and engines on display, with a chance for the public to vote for their favourite vehicle.
The Lions Club Spinning Wheel will also be at the show, with chances to win some amazing prizes, such as bikes and electrical appliances.
Local chiropractor Farrelly Chiropractic Clinic will be providing free spinal scans.
Visitors wanting to take some time out and relax can sit and relax in the new grassed eatery while listening to tunes such as American Pie, River Deep Mountain High and Suspicious Minds by live duo Charles Cassar and partner.
And past favourites Janice and The Boys should get people up and dancing, with whipcracking by Wayne Campbell in between sets.
There will also be lots of new food stores, and for those with a sweet tooth Natural Ice Cream, boiled sweets and lollipops, fudge, organic coffee, cookies and muffins, and Spanish donuts will all be on offer.
The Pakenham Show will be held at the Pakenham Racecourse this Saturday. Gates open at 9am and close at 5pm.
