Banking on success

By Melissa Grant
LAKESIDE residents and business people will officially launch a proposal this Saturday in a bid to bring a community bank to the estate.
Residents and local business people recently formed a steering committee to create the proposal.
If it is successful, the Lakeside-Pakenham Community Bank would be the fourth of its kind in the Cardinia Shire.
Lang Lang and Bunyip have their own branches, while a Beaconsfield steering committee has already received pledges of support for its own bank.
Once Bendigo takes its profits, the rest goes back into organisations and sporting clubs in that town.
The Lang Lang Bendigo Community Bank has been particularly successful, with $250,000 going back into its community each year.
The Lakeside steering committee will launch the proposal at Lakeside Park with a sunrise breakfast from 8am to 10am.
Lakeside residents and those living in the surrounding districts are invited to come along to the breakfast and meet the steering committee which will discuss the prospects of the bank.
For further information please contact the chairman of the committee Graeme Squires on 5941 1265 or David Impey on 0402 631 116.
