Primary school is in — at last

By Paul Dunlop
PAKENHAM is to get a new primary school at last.
Tuesday’s State Budget responded to long-standing demand for a new government-funded education facility to meet the needs of the fast-growing community.
The school — known as Pakenham South Primary — will be built on land previously set aside in the Heritage Springs estate.
The multi-million-dollar project, announced by Treasurer John Brumby has been welcomed as much-needed.
Heritage Springs resident Barry Hodge has led the push for a new school.
He welcomed Treasurer John Brumby’s announcement.
“Very good news,” Mr Hodge said.
Pakenham mum Joanne Woollard has campaigned for the school for almost two years.
“Residents in the area will be very happy to hear it,” she said.
Details of the school’s capacity, opening date and the construction timetable were yet to be confirmed at the time of going to press.
Other budget highlights for the area include a major upgrade of Pakenham ambulance station.
Further announcements in education funding for the town are expected later this week.
