Skate into school holiday fun

WONDERING what to do these school holidays?
Cardinia Shire Council has the answer with a school holiday program jam-packed with fun things to do.
Youth services officer Tara Stokes said young people aged 12 to 25 could check out some of Melbourne’s best skate parks today (Thursday) as part of a Sk8 Day Tour.
“Young people in Cardinia can board the bus at Pakenham, Kooweerup, Beaconsfield or Emerald and enjoy a full day of skating out of the shire,” she said.
“This time we will be checking out the Prahran Bowl and Vert Ramp and the Box Hill Skate Park, so why not grab your skateboard, roller blades or scooter and your helmet and come along.”
Young people aged 10 to 25 are also invited to take part in school holiday skateboarding clinics and BMX workshops.
Skateboarding clinics will be held at Pakenham Skate Park, 6B Henry Street, Pakenham, on:
– Tuesday, 21 March: Beginner girls from 11am-1pm, beginner boys from 2pm-4pm; and
– Wednesday, 22 March: Intermediate 11am-1pm, expert from 2pm-4pm.
BMX fans can head to Gembrook to check out the BMX freestyle clinic by Rampage.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, 23 March at Gembrook Skate Park, corner Gembrook-Launching Place Road and Beenak East Road, Gembrook.
Beginners’ sessions will be held from 11am-noon and from noon-1pm.
Advanced sessions will be held from 2pm-3pm and from 3pm-4pm. Bring a helmet and BMX.
The registration cost for both skateboarding and BMX clinics is $10.
The Sk8 Day tour costs $5 for the bus, plus money for lunch.
Participants must wear a helmet for all events or they will not be able to take part.
Bookings are essential. For more information or to register interest, contact Cardinia Shire youth services officer Tara Stokes on 5945 4307.
