VICROADS Pakenham Bypass project manager Charlie Broadhurst has asked motorists to heed the posted speed limits at work sites in the interests of safety.
He said the safety factor applied to motorists as well as workers.
Mr Broadhurst said as part of the Pakenham Bypass project, traffic on Cardinia Road, McGregor Road and Healesville-Kooweerup Road had been diverted on to temporary side roads to enable the construction of bridge overpasses.
He said a regulatory speed limit of 60 kilometres an hour applied on the temporary sidetracks to ensure road safety.
“In addition, curve warning signs and a supplementary speed sign showing 40kmh have been placed on the curve of the side tracks,” he said.
“The 40kmh speed sign – black on yellow background – is an advisory sign only used to indicate the desirable speed in good weather, traffic and road conditions.
“Temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits of 40kmh may take place sparingly during the bridge overpass works to ensure worker and road user safety.
“It is anticipated that the bridge overpass works at the three sites will be completed by early 2007 and the sidetracks removed,” Mr Broadhurst said.
