Students’ help is in the can

By Melissa Grant
CHAIRO Christian School students have a can do attitude.
Grade one and two students from the school’s Pakenham campus visited local food bank 4Cs on Monday to donate food cans.
4Cs administration manager Sue Friend said it was good to see the children giving back to their community.
“It’s part of their curriculum to visit an organisation like us and they wanted to say thanks for what we do,” she said.
“It’s great for kids of the next generation to be community-minded.”
Mrs Friend said the donation would kick-start the food bank’s Christmas donation drive.
“Coming up to Christmas here it gets really busy,” she said.
Mrs Friend said 4Cs had already received requests for Christmas hampers and urged residents to consider others in the lead up to the festive season.
“When I do my shop I may get an extra couple of spaghetti sauces,” she said.
“Even if people get something cheap and easy its really useful to us.”
She said long-life items, such as cans and sauces, were particularly useful.
Anyone wishing to donate to food or money to 4Cs can call 5941 2268.
Monetary donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
