HOMICIDE detectives are investigating the death of a Pakenham man.
Michael Griffey’s body was discovered in the garage of his family’s Ahern Road home about 9.45pm on Monday.
Police believe the body may have been there for three or four days before it was discovered.
Homicide Squad detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Griffey’s death, which has been met with shock and disbelief by residents, who described him as a community-minded and popular person.
Detective Sergeant Mark Butterworth said Mr Griffey’s injuries were suspicious and the death was being investigated as a homicide.
Det Sgt Butterworth said that police were keeping an open mind about the circumstances in which Mr Griffey died.
An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday but the results were not known at the time of going to press.
Det Sgt Butterworth said police could not discuss details of their inquiries at such an early stage.
Friends and neighbours said they were shocked by the death.
Mr Griffey was described as a natural businessman who was a keen supporter of sporting clubs and charities in the community.
