Book Week Feature Vicki Thornton, Myli library program officer

What is one book that everyone should read and why?

Oh, that’s so hard, that’s like choosing your favourite child. I really don’t think there is one book that everyone should read, but I do believe there are books that will stop you in your tracks, make you think, make you feel, make you cry, make you laugh, make you believe that the world can be a wonderful place. But if I had to choose just one book it would be The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exupery….because it does make you really think about what is important.

Which book have you read the most number of times and why?

I have two books that I read over and over again. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and The Colour Purple by Alice Walker. Both for their use of language and narrator’s voice. Each time I find another phrase or image that makes me think wow.

What are you currently reading?

At the moment it’s a piece of crime fiction – A Game of Minds by Priscilla Masters.

Who’s your all-time favourite book character?

Garfield the cat. Who can not relate to a love of lasagne and naps…
