Racecourse service

PAKENHAM residents are reminded that this year’s Anzac Day dawn service will be held at the Pakenham Racecourse.
The service, from 5.30am Sunday morning will be a time to remember those who lost their lives in battle serving their country.
Pakenham RSL president Ray Caldwell said he was “super positive” about the new venue while works begin on the Pakenham Hall site.
He said the cenotaph would soon be removed from the site and put in storage until the project was completed, when it would be returned to its original place.
“Hopefully we’ll see just as many people come down to the dawn service as last year, and even more new residents,” Mr Caldwell said.
“It really is a magical venue.”
He said the service would not be affected rain, hail or shine this year as the Racecourse provided cover if needed.
People who forget the change of venue will be redirected by SES crews stationed at the Pakenham Hall site.
“The SES will also be involved in organising parking at the racecourse,” Mr Caldwell said.
“Its all about the community.”
Able Seaman Cameron from the HMAS Cerebus will lead the service which will also include Cardinia Shire mayor Graeme Legge in full mayoral robe.
“We look forward to seeing everyone there, and invite the community to join us for our gunfire breakfast after the service.”
